2017 Timbervine Ranch Syrah
A pretty violet aroma complemented by blackberries and currants give way to a forest floor garrigue. Savory notes of mushroom and clove are highlighted on the palate with a subtle hint of peppered jerky. Timbervine Ranch brings forth the exciting wild side of Syrah, with layers of complexity and a silky mouthfeel that are intriguing all the way through to a long finish.
Located in the cooler, western side of Russian River Valley, the beautifully wild Timbervine Ranch sits high up in the hills, hidden from view by an old-growth redwood forest. The vineyard was originally planted in the early 1980s on a very steep site, helping soil drainage and concentrating the fruit.
The vineyard was harvested in late September. The juice was on the skins for 18 days during fermentation prior to being pressed off to tank to begin malolactic fermentation. The wine was racked to 100% French oak barrels before aging for 14 months and bottling unfiltered and unfined.
Food Pairing Notes
Aged blue cheese, grilled meats seasoned with your favorite rub, and wild game with sautéed mushrooms and polenta.
