2017 Greywacke Vineyard Syrah
A pretty aroma of orange blossom entices your nose, with spicy notes of leather, cedar and bergamot adding layers of complexity. On the entry, juicy black raspberry, ripe black currant and rhubarb provide a fresh fruit assortment that is light on the palate yet bold in flavor, making you want to explore this wine's depth and richness with every sip.
In 2017 we were excited to begin working with this outstanding vineyard located high up in the hills along Westside Road in the Russian River Valley. A beautiful, secluded vineyard on the north end of the AVA, it is in a sweet spot where there is a cooling fog influence after the heat of the day. The unique microclimate, red soil and the hilly terrain accentuate good drainage which helps produce wines with beautiful intensity.
The vineyard was harvested on September 29 and the juice was on skins for a total of 13 days. The must was then pressed to tank where malolactic fermentation began. The tank was racked to 100% neutral French oak barrels and aged for 16 months before bottling unfiltered and unfined in February 2019.
Food Pairing Notes
