2014 Samantha's Vineyard
Samantha's opens with lovely perfumed aromatics encompassing red fruits; cherry and strawberry as well as darker fruits; blackcurrant and blueberry giving the wine depth and a lovely opening. Digging deeper the spice characteristics begin to reveal themselves; ginger, bergamot and green olive with a little proscuitto in the background. A mouth watering wine and definitely a wine built for age. In it's youth, I would recommend decanting and a couple of years of patience will be exceptionally rewarded.
Planted in 1995, the vineyard is planted to the Alban clone on Spreckels loam. A very steep, terraced style of vineyard with about 60 inches of soil on top of bedrock.
The vineyard was harvested on the 17th of September reflecting the warmer vintage and was fermented on skins of 15 days. The wine was pressed to tank where ML fermentation started and then racked to barrels where it completed the ML fermentation. The wine was left in barrels for 14 months and then was bottled unfiltered and unfined in mid November 2015.
Food Pairing Notes
Samantha's is our pasta wine. Fantastic with Lasagna or red sauce pasta dishes and always remember to add Fennel or Caraway seeds, which accentuate the anise finish in the wine. Pork dishes are another favorite and is complimented by the spice characteristics in the wine.
