2014 Atoosa's Vineyard
Recognizable at once by it's aromatics, Atoosa's vineyard syrah upfront presents a beautiful floral note of violet. Deeper into the wine and the red and black currants along with a note of raspberry come alive. Then the spice! The Atoosa's spice! Bergamot, anise, sage keeping the wine alive and fresh. On the palate, blackcurrant and the complex array of spice. A lovely feminine, elegant syrah. Drinking well in it's youth but this wine will profit from cellaring for an additional one to two years.
Our fourth vintage from this Russian River vineyard, which is west of Santa Rosa in the Russian RIver valley plain. The vineyard is always our last pick of the year due to it's foggy placement, which maintains a fresher and redder profile in the wine. The vineyard is planted to four different clones of Syrah, which adds layers of complexity to the wine.
The vineyard was harvested beginning of October reflecting the warmer vintage and the juice was on the skins for 14 days during fermentation. The wine was pressed off to tank where the ML fermentation was started and then racked to 100% french oak barrels to complete the ML fermentation. The wine was left in barrels for 14 months. It was bottled in mid December unfiltered and unfined.
Food Pairing Notes
Atoosa's syrah is our coolest climate style and so pairs very well with lighter foods. One of our favorite pairing dishes is to grill salmon with white pepper and herbes de Provence. The white pepper compliments the pepper in the wine and the herbes bring out more of the floral characteristics. Then all you need is a patio.
