Russian River Valley

2014 777 Pinot Noir
Upfront on the nose, blackberry and black raspberry is followed with deeper layers of woodsy, forest floor elements and a darker spice and menthol finish. The palate is enveloping and soft with a lovely mid palate lift highlighting blackberry, pomegranate and black cherry and giving the wine a lovely long fruit finish.
The Bella Vigna vineyard is a very steep vineyard planted on top of a south west facing hill. The vineyard is in the cooler southern end of the Russian river valley appellation and is on Goldridge loam. The vineyard is equally planted to the 777 and Swan clones of Pinot Noir.
The 777 pinot was picked along side the Swan clone in late September. The clones were fermented separately and had 14 days of skin contact. A very small amount of the 777 free run juice was kept separate from the rest of the free run and pressed juice and was enough to make a couple of barrels. The wine was aged for 14 months in a couple of neutral french oak barrels and bottled in November of 2015.

A unique and different pinot from the standard Heather. I really enjoyed this gem.
