2011 Atoosa's Vineyard

95pts & Best 100 wines of 2014 - Wine and Spirits

A fantastic cool climate vineyard in the Russian river appellation, owned by Tuck and Atoosa Bierbaum.  This vineyard is always picked very late in the season due to the coastal fog influence, which adds complexity to the wine.  The vineyard is also planted to 5 different clones of Syrah again adding complexity to finished wine.  The wines from this vineyard have a distinctive spice characteristic as well as being elegant and lower in alcohol.  A great addition to our Syrah stable.

Winemaker Notes
Atoosa's was the last harvest of 2011, at the end of October. The cooler vintage allowed longer hang times, but without big sugars. The fruit was harvested at around 23 brix. The fruit was de-stemmed and left to cold soak on skins for 4 days, at which stage the native yeasts started fermentation. The fermentation lasted 12 days and the must was punched down manually twice a day. The must was then pressed to tank where the ML fermentation started. The wine was then racked out of tank to finish ML fermentation in barrel and was aged in French oak for about 14 mo’s with 15% new oak.
